We are Wolverine Soft, the video game development student group at the University of Michigan. We are here to ensure the continued success of the game development community on campus, and the success of U of M students in the video game industry. We help all developers -- artists, musicians, coders, designers and producers are all welcome. For more information about us, including membership, meetings, and email lists please see About Wolverine Soft.
Get our newsfeed! The news here is a bit slow to come by. Most of our news comes from our announcement list. Join it if you want to stay more up-to-date, but rest assured that most of the bigger announcements will hit this page.
Also, we now have three RSS feeds. One for announcements, one for upcoming events, and one for articles and columns. For your RSS reading needs, I recommend Firefox, Thunderbird, and Google.

Honoring Stephen Colbert is the theme, and the results are in. There are 14 games ready for download made by 14 teams, 41 participants. All should run in Windows if the proper redistributables have been run.
First, I want to thank the particpants. They all worked hard and most came out with great, if a bit incomplete, games. I hope that Stephen Colbert is honored by the games and the hard work that went into them. My only regret regarding the contest is that I wasn't able to make one myself. Perhaps I'll get to work on World of Colbertcraft soon ;-)
Second, I want to thank our sponsors:
Activision,
EA,
Microsoft,
THQ, and
Ed Baraf,
Pete Knepley, and
Dave Ratti. Their donations help to make these contests possible.
Third, I want to thank our judges: Professor John Laird, Professor Brian Winn, and Professor Bruce Maxim. Some came a long way. All took a great deal of care in evaluating the games - a time consuming process.
Fourth, I want to thank my co-organizer, Paul. Our working together made the largest 48 Hour Contest yet the most manageable yet.
Last, but not least, I want to thank Stephen Colbert for being the inspiration for our theme this year.
So, get to playing the games. Have fun!

Flag Wars: Capture the Flags is the game Keenan, Wes, Jason and I worked on for our EECS 494 project. It came in 7th out of 13 entries. I hope you enjoy it. You will need to find someone else to play it with as it is a networked multiplayer game only at the moment.
Also, Supermassive Black Hole and Perilous Seas are two EECS 494 arcade games that were made this semester. Both are also worth checking out.

This week's dev session, we will be starting a tutorial series. It is definitely going to a tutorial on beginning game programming, so be there if that interests you. There are a few different options for what engine or library we will be teaching you, so if you want to have some input, be sure to come early. Whatever we decide on we will probably stick with for some time.

You should come listen to what he has to say.
Matt Gilgenbach, a Wolverine Soft alum and a programmer currently
working at High Impact Games, is in town and interested in speaking with
us. We are going to meet in the CSE lobby on North Campus at 4:45 PM.
We will then head to an actual room (TBD) and post a note on our office
door telling late-comers where to go. (Our office is right behind the
Foo Bar.)
